Serial Related Technical Specifications
Data Interfaces RS-232/V.24 comes standard; RS-422/449/485/530, V.35/36/10/11, and X.21 interfaces supported through optional serial cards or converters.
Data Rates Up to 921.6K bps async, including support for user-defined non-standard data rates. Up to 64K sync and 38.4 async with RS-232 ComProbe Option.
Operating Modes Monitor DTE, Monitor DCE, Monitor Both, Source DTE, and Source DCE.
Communication Modes Asynchronous (Standard), Synchronous (ComProbe), Isochronous (ComProbe).
Bit Order LSB (normal) or MSB (reversed) first.
Flow Control Software (including user-defined Xon/Xoff), Hardware (RTS/CTS and DTR/DSR).
Character Sets Character Sets: ASCII, 7-bit ASCII, EBCDIC, Baudot.
Data Formats Decoded 16 bit Integers, 32 bit Integers, 32 bit Floating Point, 32 bit Reverse Floating Point, and ASCII.
Parity None, Even, Odd, Mark, Space.
Word Length 5, 6, 7, or 8 bits.

Serial Networks
To interface to the RS-232 serial async traffic, connect the serial ports on the PC running the NetDecoder analyzer software to the cable supplied.

Ethernet Related Technical Specifications
Data Rates Supports 10M bps and 100M bps Ethernet.
Network Interface Uses any Windows compatible 10/100 Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC).
Data Formats Decoded 16 bit Integers, 32 bit Integers, 32 bit Floating Point, 32 bit Reverse Floating Point, and ASCII.
Timestamping Absolute and relative timestamping; <1 microsecond resolution.

Ethernet Protocols Supported DNP3, Modbus/TCP, and Ethernet/IP (including CIP and PCCC), ProfiNet and CSP/PCCC, TCP/IP, SLIP, PPP, TCP, UDP, IP, ARP, RARP, DNS, HTTP, ICMP, IGMP, NBDS, NBNS, NBSS, SMTP, IBM NetBIOS, SMB, Novell Netware (IPX, SPX, IPX NetBIOS, NPX ROP, IPX SAP, NCP), and ISO CLNP.


The PC containing NetDecoder taps the Ethernet LAN in the same manner as a standard Ethernet workstation, through any available network drop.

  • Disk Space: 35 MB (capture file size is limited by available disk space).
  • Serial Port (2 ports required for bi-directional data capture).
  • Standard Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) [Ethernet-based only].
  • Data Highway Plus requires DHM3500 hardware.
  • DeviceNet and CAN2.0A require SST/Woodhead DeviceNet card.
  • DH-485 requires a 2 port RS-485 serial card.
  • ControlNet requires Rockwell 1784-PCC card.
