Bonding and pairing are two different terms for the same thing. After pairing, two devices are said to be bonded.
Link key - This is what is used to encrypt data on a Bluetooth link. A predetermined mathematical algorithm is performed on the data using the link key to encrypt, the same key is used on the receiving side to decrypt. The link key is never sent over the air.
Comb Key - is a random number passed between the two devices during the authentication process.
Pass Key (or PIN) - is a number entered by the user into each device during legacy pairing that is used by each device as one of the inputs in creating a link key. Both devices must have the same PIN in order to create the same link key. |
